State of Caring Conference 2020

Building a Better Future for Carers

Wednesday 21 October 2020 9.30am - 4.30pm
Holiday Inn Bloomsbury, London, WC1

COVID-19 update

In response to the continuing coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Carers UK is committed to maintaining its services as effectively as possible. We have been monitoring the outbreak very closely. As you know the situation has rapidly changed as has the guidance.

As a result we have decided to postpone the State of Caring conference scheduled to take place on 16 July 2020. The State of Caring Conference 2020 will now take place on Wednesday 21 October 2020.

We will continue to take bookings, however, we will not get in touch with conference updates before the end of May as we do appreciate everyone’s priorities and way of working have been impacted due to the latest developments.

About the conference

Building on our success of the 2019 conference, this year Carers UK will bring together key speakers and sector leaders who will outline what the near future holds for carers. Through a mixed format of keynote sessions and facilitated workshops, delegates should leave with an enhanced knowledge of best practice and forthcoming policy across the broad landscape of supporting carers.

Workshops will be delivered on key themes such as key elements of the NHS Long Term Plan, employment, learning and innovation. There’ll also be information on strong evidence of passports in the workplace, new models of supporting carers among other key topics.

Chaired by David Brindle, Public Services Editor of The Guardian, the conference will have interactive elements and critical networking opportunities.

Whether you are a commissioner, practitioner or service provider, this conference is for you.

Affiliate members of Carers UK will have a further networking opportunity at the Affiliates early evening reception (4.45-6.30pm). If you wish to sign up your organisation as an Affiliate member, please find out more information here.

With a new Government and practice on the ground constantly evolving, the landscape for carers continues to change. We’ll be reviewing one full year of the NHS Plan implementation and the biggest ever mention of carers, the growing interest in carers and employment and with the two year Carers Action Plan delivered, we’ll be looking forward to what might be next for carers and what the future holds.

This conference is an opportunity to catch up with the ever-changing landscape for carers. The past year has seen a growing number of initiatives delivered for carers, moving forward on practice and learning, where we are seeing new developments shape the future of carers’ commissioning and support across health and social care. It is an ideal time to look at the new opportunities to engage, learn from practice and share outcomes.

We’ll be looking at some of the latest research and evidence across all of the sessions to help demonstrate the value and need for supporting carers in different ways – using practical examples of local and national activity where things have worked well. We’ll be reflecting the trends and practice across the sector to look at shared learning, new developments and opportunities in what continues to be a tight economic environment.

Fees include attendance at all sessions, lunch, refreshments and entrance to the post-conference reception for Carers UK Affiliate members.
